Bayit Newsletter - September 2020

Dear Berkeley Bayit Alumni and Friends,

Shana Tova!

May this year, 5781, be a year filled with good health, strength, resilience and kindness.

It is hard to believe that The Berkley Bayit was started in 1980; this year we are celebrating 40 years as one of the longest running independent progressive Jewish living experiences for college students. We want to pause and thank all of the Bayit alumni and community members who have served on the Berkeley Bayit Board over the years or have contributed in any way to keep the house running smoothly. Without these tireless volunteers and supporters, the Bayit could not exist today.

We have more than 300 Bayit alumni, and currently there are 11 Bayitniks living in the

beautiful, historic home at 19 Hillside Court continuing the tradition of creating Jewish

community, exploring Jewish identities, and cultivating leadership skills. The current students

are taking classes online at UC Berkeley and sheltering in place as a social pod following

COVID19 safety precautions.

The current Board is in the process of planning a Zoom reunion to celebrate the 40th

anniversary of the house. Please let us know if you are interested in being a part of the planning committee by emailing us at theberkeleybayit@gmail.com. We wish we could gather in person at the house but instead we will gather virtually to celebrate this meaningful simcha.

We are also looking for more volunteers and board members to work on the following

committees: property, finance, fundraising, and administrative. If you are interested in learning more or being more involved, please reach out to us by emailing theberkeleybayit@gmail.com.

Be well and we look forward to celebrating online with you soon.
